TOI-3362b: A Proto Hot Jupiter Undergoing High-eccentricity Tidal Migration

چکیده

High-eccentricity tidal migration is a possible way for giant planets to be placed in short-period orbits. If this happens often, one would expect catch proto hot Jupiters on highly elliptical orbits undergoing high-eccentricity migration. As of yet, few such systems have been discovered. Here, we introduce TOI-3362b (TIC-464300749b), an 18.1 day, 5 MJup planet orbiting main-sequence F-type star that likely The orbital eccentricity 0.815 . With semimajor axis 0.153 au, the planet's orbit expected shrink final radius 0.051 au after complete circularization. Several mechanisms could explain extreme value eccentricity, as planet–planet scattering and secular interactions. Such hypotheses can tested with follow-up observations system, e.g., measuring stellar obliquity searching companions system precise, long-term radial-velocity observations. variation equilibrium temperature it host heating at periapse make intriguing target atmospheric modeling observation. Because period days near limit TESS's sensitivity, even discoveries suggest may quite common.

Viscoelastic tidal dissipation in giant planets and formation of hot Jupiters through high-eccentricity migration

We study the possibility of tidal dissipation in the solid cores of giant planets and its implication for the formation of hot Jupiters through high-eccentricity migration. We present a general framework by which the tidal evolution of planetary systems can be computed for any form of tidal dissipation, characterized by the imaginary part of the complex tidal Love number, Im[k̃2(ω)], as a functi...

Jupiter ' s Hot , Mushy

Jupiter's moon Io is the most volcanically active body in the Solar System. Observations by instruments on the Galileo spacecraft and on telescopes atop Maunakea in Hawai'i indicate that lava flows on Io are surprisingly hot, over 1200 oC and possibly as much as 1300 oC; a few areas might have lava flows as hot as 1500 oC. Such high temperatures imply that the lava flows are composed of rock th...

Obliquities of hot Jupiter host stars: Evidence for tidal interactions and primordial misalignments

We provide evidence that the obliquities of stars with close-in giant planets were initially nearly random, and that the low obliquities that are often observed are a consequence of star-planet tidal interactions. The evidence is based on 14 new measurements of the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect (for the systems HAT-P-6, HAT-P-7, HATP-16, HAT-P-24, HAT-P-32, HAT-P-34, WASP-12, WASP-16, WASP-18, WAS...

THE HIGH ALBEDO OF THE HOT JUPITER KEPLER-7 b

Hot Jupiters are expected to be dark from both observations (albedo upper limits) and theory (alkali metals and/or TiO and VO absorption). However, only a handful of hot Jupiters have been observed with high enough photometric precision at visible wavelengths to investigate these expectations. The NASA Kepler mission provides a means to widen the sample and to assess the extent to which hot Jup...

Tidal dissipation at arbitrary eccentricity and obliquity

Expressions for tidal dissipation in a body in synchronous rotation at arbitrary orbital eccentricity and obliquity are derived. The rate of tidal dissipation for a synchronously rotating body is compared to that in a body in asymptotic nonsynchronous rotation. © 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
